LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a device removed from the leg of a
73-year-old woman who said she was forced to go to a bank was not actually a
bomb. Washington County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kelly Cantrell said
Tuesday that the device strapped to Betty Davis was not explosive.
Authorities say Davis walked into a Fayetteville bank on Monday and told
employees she had an explosive device strapped to her ankle. Cantrell says
Davis was the victim of an extortion plot, not personally involved in any
attempted robbery. Davis told police that a man had been holding her and her
husband hostage in their home. Sheriff's deputies found her husband tied up
but unhurt.
Authorities are searching for a white male they believe is behind the
incident.
